DMX stands for Digital Multiplex. DMX is a digital control protocol for controlling lighting technology.
Five-pin XLR connectors are used for transmission.
The DMX signals are usually generated and controlled by a light mixer/controller.
The DMX cables have a 5-pin female connector on one side and an XLR male connector on the other side.
As the signal contains high frequencies, according to the specification, any microphone cable must not be used. The correct DMX cable must be a shielded cable.

DMX pin assignment 5 pin XLR connector

Pin 1 = Ground (shield)
Pin 2 = Signal inverted (DMX - / Cold)
Pin 3 = Signal (DMX + / Hot)
Pin 4 = Data 2 - optional
Pin 5 = Data 2 + optional
